About this trip

Join Sechrist Travel for a week through art, history, food and wine across the Andalusia region of Southern Spain. 


We will enjoy the wine and superb gastronomy, as well as, the art, history and nature of the region. We will visit medieval villages, monasteries, cathedrals, and historic wineries. 

With your arrival into Málaga–Costa del Sol Airport (AGP), we transfer directly to the city of Málaga to enjoy a tapas tour, with your local tour manager, visiting traditional spots (touristic and non-touristic) before checking into your hotel in the Axarquía area for the first five (5) nights.


We end with a visit to Madrid, Spain's central capital, a city of elegant boulevards and expansive, manicured parks.

Luxury Motor Coach transportation at disposal for transfers and visits based as shown in the itinerary. 2nd class High speed train from Málaga to Madrid Atocha.

Morning Arrival into Málaga–Costa del Sol Airport (AGP)

With your arrival into Málaga–Costa del Sol Airport (AGP), we clear passport control, collect your luggage, and passing through customs, you will meet with your English-Speaking Tour Manager and transfer directly to the city of Málaga to enjoy a tapas tour, visiting traditional spots (touristic and non-touristic) before transferring to the heart of picturesque Ronda and checking into your hotel for the first five (5) nights, HOTEL RONDA MOMENTS. The hotel is a beautifully renovated former oil mill, nestled in the valley of Ronda. Enjoy the wonder of nature in this peaceful getaway set in amazing surroundings, where winding roads, olive and cypress trees, create the perfect backdrop for an unforgettable experience. Enjoy a break away from the city hustle and bustle to this quiet location. Relax on the terrace after a day of exploring, witnessing unique sunsets over the magnificent rolling countryside.

Visit Ronda with Wine Tasting Tour

Breakfast @ Hotel. Today, we visit the whitewashed village or Ronda. Here there are 27 wineries where we can enjoy the wine and the views of this gorgeous tour.


The vineyards have an altitude between 700m and 900m with international varieties (Cab, Syrah, Traminer, Chardonnay, etc.) with a special interest in the variety Petit Verdot, which is produced here just as a single varietal wine due to the ideal conditions of the soil/weather.


Here, we will also enjoy a diverse viticulture system.  Traditional/Eco viticulture compared with the biodynamic wines.  We will visit at least 2 bodegas (a wine shop or wine cellar) to experience  2 different points of view.


Return to hotel for overnight

Montes de Málaga

Breakfast @ Hotel. Today we visit the area of Montes de Málaga, famous for being the largest European vineyard until the arrival of the phylloxera.


Here we don't visit the wine cellar, we rather focus the tour on the soil and the vineyard.  We do a tasting of the local white varieties PX (Pedro Ximen) and Muscat with a blend of international reds.


Málaga is home to the largest breed of goats, therefore goat cheese production ins highlight. Today we combine our wine tour with a visit to a local farmhouse, spending some time with the Shepard and the goats during their daily activity in the countryside.  We will also participate in a cheese workshop.


Tonight we will enjoy a Flamenco Show and Group Dinner provided

Montilla - Moriles Gourmet Experience with cooking class

Breakfast @ Hotel. This morning we visit a local Almazara (Oil Mill) including a tasting of the different olive oils. Andalusia is the largest Extra Virgin Olive Oil produces in the world. 


This afternoon we visit a local, family run, bodega where we will enjoy a wine and food paring with the best gourmet wines in the world (this is not an exaggeration) produced in the solar and criadera system.


The same PX variety will express its nuances in a different way depending of the bio or oxidative aging, giving way to wines like Fino, Amontillado, and Oloroso.  Some of these will be more that 20 years old!


We will also enjoy a balsamic vinegar tasting in an exclusive bodega nearby.

Granada - Alambra Palaces Tour

Breakfast @ Hotel. Today we visit the city of Granada and the Alhambra Palace and Generalife Gardens. The complex of the Alhambra Palace was the largest politcal and aristocratic centre of the Muslim West. The Palace premises comprise beautiful rectangular courtyards and numerous fountains, as well as the Nasrid buildings.


Enjoy a wine tasting  in a private venue of wines produced in the high vineyards of the Sierra Nevada

Madrid

Breakfast @ Hotel. Today we pack up and take the high speed train from Málaga to Madrid Atocha.  


Upon arrival into Madrid, check into our centrally located hotel, SLEEP'N Atocha, or similar.  


This afternoon and evening, we will enjoy an Aperitivo (Happy Hour) together and you will enjoy some time at your leisure around your hotel.


You might like to explore El Retiro Park (19th-century park with boating lake & rose garden, plus numerous fountains & statues.), the Puerta de Alcalá (Triumphal arch), the Mercado de San Miguel (1916 covered market offering local food, delicacies & events in an elegant ambiance, or Plaza Mayor, full of Cafes & restaurants that line the arches of this stately square with Philip III's statue in the center.

Madrid

Breakfast @ Hotel. This morning, enjoy entrance and a guided tour of the the Prado Museum


Forthe remainder of the day, you will have the opportunity to explore Madrid at your leisure.

 

Madrid, the capital of Spain and a dynamic European city steeped in history. For art lovers, it has the so-called "golden triangle" of the Prado, Thyssem, Reina Sofia Museums, all within a short distance of one another and each with an outstanding international reputation. Among its highlights are the medieval center dating back to the Habsburg Empire and the Prado Museum. ,

Departure Day

Breakfast @ Hotel. After breakfast you will go to the Madrid Barajas Internabonal Airport (MAD) to begin your journey back to the USA.
